Résumé: On a stormy night way back in the winter of 2009, mad scientist Doctor Prospero worked late in his laboratory, aided only by his wife, Gloria, as he developed the elusive formula with which he would change the world. The apparently faithful Gloria, however, duped him and sent him off into hyper-space in an old spacecraft. Unknown to Gloria, her infant daughter, Miranda, slumbered peacefully in the craft and was now catapulted light years into the future in her father's company. Fifteen years later, a routine survey flight under the command of the chisel-jawed Captain Tempest leaves earth's orbit with a new Science Officer aboard - a hard and bitter woman. As a shower of meteorites hits the ship, the Science Officer flees, and the craft is pulled inexorably towards the plant D'Illyria - the Forbidden Plant. The adventure begins .......

Version 1

Fings Ain't Wot They Used T'Be (1999-04-Queen's Theatre Hornchurch-London)

Type de série: Revival
Théâtre: Queen's Theatre Hornchurch (Londres - Angleterre)
Durée : 2 semaines
Nombre :
Première Preview : Friday 16 April 1999
Première : Monday 19 April 1999
Dernière : Saturday 08 May 1999
Mise en scène : Bob Carlton
Chorégraphie : Liz Marsh
Producteur :
Avec : Steve Edwin (Fred), Diana Croft (Lily), Dale Superville, Tony Hunt, Liz Marsh, Nina Lucking, Richard Brightiff, Phil Hearne
Commentaires : Although staged at the furthest reaches of Greater London, and not really qualifying for a “West End” listing, this was a notable production since it was the first major revival in almost 40 years. Lionel Bart himself was working on the production, and preparing some new lyrics, when he died, just two weeks before the opening night. It was staged with the cast doubling as the orchestra and playing their own instruments.

Version 2

Lust (1993-07-Haymarket Theatre-London)

Type de série: Original
Théâtre: Haymarket Theatre (Londres - Angleterre)
Durée :
Nombre : 128 représentations
Première Preview : Inconnu
Première : Monday 19 July 1993
Dernière : Inconnu
Mise en scène : Bob Carlton
Chorégraphie : Irvin Davies
Producteur :
Avec : Denis Lawson (Horner), Paul leonard (Quack), Judith Paris (Lady Fidget), Sophie Aldred (Margery), Julian Curry (Pinchwife), Mark Haddigan, Anthony Dawes, Janet Devenish
Commentaires : Based on “The Country Wife” by William Wycherley, this was described as a “Carry On” comedy set to music. They either loved it, or they hated it. One critic commented: “I’m told that ‘Lust’ was performed to great acclaim at the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch; a more telling indictment of Essex Man as a cultural arbiter would be hard to imagine.” It ran for three and a half months.

Version 3

Return to the Forbidden Planet (1989-09-Cambridge Theatre-London)

Type de série: Original
Théâtre: Cambridge Theatre (Londres - Angleterre)

Durée : 3 ans 4 mois
Nombre : 1516 représentations
Première Preview : Inconnu
Première : Monday 18 September 1989
Dernière : Saturday 16 January 1993
Mise en scène : Bob Carlton
Chorégraphie : Carole Todd
Producteur :
Avec : John Ashby (Captain Tempest), Christian Roberts (Doctor Prospero), Alison Harding (Miranda), Kraig Thornber (Ariel) , Matthew Devitt, Nicky Furre, Anthony Hunt, Kate Edgar
Commentaires : Based on the B-Movie “Forbidden Planet”, which itself wass derived from Shakespeare’s “Tempest” this show contained some of the best songs from the past 30 years to please the rockers, and enough Shakespeare jokes to please the regular theatregoer, and all-in-all, got a great critical and audience reaction. It was, however, harder to pull in the crowds. Somewhat astonishingly this show won the Olivier Award for Best Musical of the Year, beating “Miss Saigon”, thus causing considerable controversy.
